You know the LCD screen watches, where you need a light to see them, unlike mechanical with glow in the dark hands.
OK OK So stay with me!
What if you make the stuff in the LCD out of something that would glow in the dark!
Can a B/W LCD be made with stuff that would glow in the dark but only when it was turned into part of the number or whatever.
or
Put glow in the dark tape behind the LCD of a normal watch!?
How would that work out?
OH MY GAWD I just had a kick-ass thought!

Depends on how the LCD is constructed. Some LCDs have the backing permanently attached. Others you can disassemble until you get just the glass "sandwich" and can put whatever you want behind it as long as there is enough room.

There's probably literally a billion watches out there with EL backlight.
One common brand is Indiglo. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indiglo

Nice thing about EL backlights is that they use very little energy.

Epicelite is probably thinking about this kind of glow-in-the-dark:
http://www.techeblog.com/index.php/tech ... w-keychain
Now, if that was the LCD's backlight, and the changing black-or-white parts of the display in front of the backlight were made the same way as the displays on e-books, that consume power only when toggled, then that would make an energy-efficient (if slightly radioactive) display. And if the image was inverted, only the numbers would be glowing.
A related thought: what a radioactive substance was enclosed in a capsule that would reflect all the radiation inwards; inside would be a lot of substance that absorbs the radiation and turns it into light; and the light would be focused with lenses or mirrors onto a photovoltaic element; would that qualify as a nuclear power source? This would probably be enough to power a clock or a calculator.
