Who needs cheap MSOP10/TSSOP8 to DIP adapters ?

Post by madworm_de »

Hi,

I've been planning to build a boost converter based on the LT1618 chip for a 12V 3W LED project for quite a while. It has quite a few features that I want to have (voltage limiting, current limiting, dimming ...). Unfortunately it only comes in an MSOP10 package, so prototyping on perfboard is a no go without adapters. I know there are adapters by "bellin" and others that are hilariously priced, but they only sell panels that also include adapters for TSOP and others which I neither want nor need.

So I'm thinking about having some adapters made, so each one gets really cheap (50¢ or so). First side: MSOP10, second side: TSSOP8

Anybody want / need some ? Drop me a message!

It may take a few weeks until they arrive though. You've been warned.

Thanks for the link, but are you serious ?

3.50$ for a board the size of a thumbnail. If these are mass produced, they're no more than maybe 10 or 20¢ per board. I understand that shops need money to survive, but this is a bit unfriendly.

I know. But unless you find a lot of people who are interested, ordering a custom PCB will be more expensive.
Did you calculate how many people you need to beat these prices?

To be honest, no.

But I'm comfortable with getting a 10x life-time supply of said adapters, instead of supporting such a vampiristic business model.

Maybe I'll line my coffin with them when my time has come, but that is worth it. In the meantime, I'd just offer them on my blog. If they're cheap enough, someone will want them. Sooner or later, I can wait ;-)

I actually could use about 25 of the tssop8 adapters...and probably a few more down the road.

I've placed an order at makepcb.com (slow and cheap) - so it'll take some time until I get them. The first batch will be 180 adapter boards (no headers). Depending on if and how much I get charged for import, it will be significantly less than 1$ per piece.

@madworm_de do you have any of these MSOP adaptor boards available for sale? I am really stuck for one on a project I am working on (http://gerrysweeney.com/). Hope you don't mind me asking....
