I am having to go through another person for the answers to your questions.
On this particular cable, we cannot get the cable to acknowledge as a USB device when plugging it into the USB port of a computer. We can take any number of identical cables and plug them into the same USB port of the same computer and we see the auto-install of the device on the computer as we would expect.
I purchased the items but this person uses the items.

That does sound like a bad cable.
Send a note to [email protected] with a link to this thread and the folks there will get you a replacement. It would probably help to have your order number if that's handy.
