Thinking in C++ is good and free, but the site is down for the moment, maybe you can find it in a mirror though. Here is the Google cache version for the links.

I used C++ Primer Plus by Stephen Prata to learn. My background was in Fortran from college and Visual Basic mostly for Excel macros. It gives a very good base and is a good reference. If you know C, it also points out the differences.
