I've had problems with garbage characters appearing on some pages on the website. An example is http://www.ladyada.net/library/procure/samples.html where quoted text appears like this for me:
“Seems to be hard to obtain for a hobbyist.â€
It looks to me like the page is incorrectly setting the charset as ISO-8859-1 when it should be UTF-8 (Unicode). I am able to fix the display in my browser on an individual basis by setting View->Character Encoding->Unicode (UTF-8) in the Firefox menu.
Maybe these characters come from things people paste into the wiki and the serving page doesn't parse the character set before it includes it? Or maybe it's more general than that.
I'm using Firefox 3.5.2 in OS X 10.5.8. The same issue also exists in Safari.
