New project - energy monitor for Google PowerMeter

Post by mspohr »

It looks like Google.org has an API for power meter monitoring that I think would be a good project for Adafruit.
http://www.google.org/powermeter/

There is an existing commercial project that uses ZigBee and inductive clamps on the power panel to monitor power usage and send it to Google for display.

This looks like a fairly simple project. Just make some inductive clamps and hook it up the Zigbee (similar to the Tweet-a-Watt interface) and you're good to go.

We could just buy the commercial project but that is not nearly as much fun as building something yourself and having lots more flexibility options. Besides the commercial project is "proprietary and patented" so definitely not friendly to hackers.

Any thoughts on this idea?

Thanks for the link. It looks like you are all over this...
It also looks like Google is still getting its act together about the API. Hopefully this will get resolved soon.
I'll watch for updates.
Thanks,
Mark
