FIRST: Are you using a Minipov3 from a kit or from DIY? Make sure you mention that in your post
I bought the kit from makershed.
SECOND: What OS and computer are you using?
I am using an ibm lenovo running windows xp
THIRD: Are you using a USB adapter or a serial port?
i am using a belkin usb to serial converter
FOURTH: Did the minipov light up at all when you turned it on?
yes it works fine when using the built in programming. I see the word "Make!" when I wave it around
FIFTH: What -specifically- isn't working?
I get the standard error message of not being able to communicate with the AVR.
SIXTH: Post screenshots (NOT copy&paste) of what is happening
SEVENTH: Post clear, in-focus, not-blurry, easy to see photos of the top and bottom of the kit. If the photos are blurry, unfocused, and difficult to see they will only make it harder to debug what is going on
Sorry I don't have screen shots. When I do power the gadget on it doesn't go through any LED light up in sequence - it goes right to the LEDs flashing.
When I attempt to program it, one of the LEDs goes on and that's it. The LINK light does flash but the TX/RX lights do not - when i'm trying to program it.

Is the device powered wen you try to program it?
Also, do you know if your USB/Serial adapter is based on an FTDI chip? These require patches to AVRdude to work properly.

The device is powered on when I do this. I honestly don't know if the adaptor is based on an ftdi chip. something to research today.
I had some things about "fuses" but I am not sure if that is required to make the minipov work properly?

If you are building form a kit and following the tutorial, fuses should not be an issue.

I found some information on the internet that states that this usb to serial adaptor is NOT an ftdi adaptor. So I think that's my problem. Going to have to order a better adaptor.

in truth what you want for the minipov3 is an adapter based on a pl2303 like this one.BANNED wrote:I found some information on the internet that states that this usb to serial adaptor is NOT an ftdi adaptor. So I think that's my problem. Going to have to order a better adaptor.
