What SpokePOV Software tools are required?

I would like to tinker around with the SpokePOV software. Perhaps figure out how to get animations to work or add an odometer and/or speedometer to the display.

Anyone have any pointers on where to start? I found this site http://www.avrfreaks.net/

I am an WinXP user will WinAVR have everything I need to get started?

animations are already in there.

you can look at the minipov project for details on how to get started hacking the firmware and uploading it to the microcontroller. beyond that, you're on your own .
