X0xsh0p x0xb0x - no sound - help needed

Post by Slopro »

I assembled X0xsh0p x0xb0x and get no sound out of it. The sequencer part seems to be working just fine, I can program in my own patterns and play them, the LEDs light up and roll from 1 to 16 and the LED on note playing lights up. (The tempo LED doesn't blink and I don't know if tap tempo works but that's not my main problem right now).

The problem is that I get no sound either from mix out or headphone connector. I am armed with multimeter, computer oscilloscope, cheap headphones and alligator clips. The headphone testing / http://www.ladyada.net/wiki/x0x/headphonetesting ) gave me correct measures except for U1, which was only 0.676 instead of 1V. I have no idea what else to test or what to do.

    Please help me!

Apparently this x0xb0x-kit (from x0xb0x.de) also had one of the counterfeit C2291 89C chips (Q22).
The BA6110 (IC15B) amp seems to be shot. I don't see/hear any meaningful output from pin 6, even though a waveform can be seen/heard from pin 1 and recognised from pin 2 on the scope. Connecting pin 2 to pin 6 generates output from the headphone jack.

Is there a no frills way to confirm the amp is FUBAR before ordering a new one?

The voltages on the BA6110 are as follows (random mode, full everything, square wave):
    pin 1 5.3V/6mV (dc/ac)
    pin 2 5.3V/3mV
    pin 3 0V/3mV
    pin 4 11.8V/[0,35]V
    pin 5 0V/3mV
    pin 6 5.3V/4mV
    pin 7 5.3V/4mV
    pin 8 5.4V/3mV
    pin 9 11.9V/[0,35]V

The BA6110 was fried. Now the x0xb0x works like a charm.

When did you buy the kit out of interest?

I have similar issues. Wonder if my ba6110 is shot? I got mine about 4 years ago tho.

    Worth a try

    cheers for posting the solution.

The kit was bought approximately between January and June this year.

Ok so I messed up pretty bad trying to MOD my XOX.

The power board is complete and Im testing J4. I have the 5.33 volts on the money. The other tests 36 VOLTS! Not what to do but it seems the problem is somewhere on the power board. Does anyone have any idea what it could be.

My first thought was to strip it down completely and then put it back to gather again and see what happens.

    Thanks for your help
    Nico
