youll need to solder the xtl in place to be sure
i still cant find those microcontroller voltages
i might just remeasure them

Re: Chipsforbrain xoxbox build - not working!
Yeah if you could that would be great!
Thanks mate.
If someone could do a quick check and see what the voltages on the pins of the XTAL1 are, that would be a massive help.

Re: Chipsforbrain xoxbox build - not working!
ive got about .7v on both pins
i think one of the issues with the oscillators
is that the fuse settings were originally done wrong
for the microcontroller
such that the oscillator is on the edge of working

I didnt see a check for +5V rail in this thread. Is the 5V reg getting really hot? What voltage do you have at pin 40 of the uC. There have been quite a few TT kits with shorts in the digital section..

I'll check it out tonight. These oscillators can go in any direction right? Can they be put in backwards?
I will also check the uC voltages on pin 9 & 40.

Yeah, they are not directionalShorne86 wrote: I'll check it out tonight. These oscillators can go in any direction right? Can they be put in backwards?

Re: Chipsforbrain xoxbox build - not working!
I have removed the oscillator for now but the two outer pins have a DC voltage of 3.43v and 3.53v. Im guessing the middle pin is ground?
I checked pin9 on the uC and it gives me 4.87V DC.
pin40(the last pin?) on the other hand only yeilds 2.4v.
Would this be my problem?
I wont soilder in the oscillator or put in the new uC untill i ow wont blowthemup!

thats not right, you should have +5 on pin 40. The 7805 is not getting super hot?

Thats the regulator with the heat sink on the input/output board yeah? Its warmish but its definetely not burning up or too hot to touch.Altitude wrote:thats not right, you should have +5 on pin 40. The 7805 is not getting super hot?
are pins 9 and 40 fed from the same connection of the ribbon connector?

Re: Chipsforbrain xoxbox build - not working!
what voltage do you have at the regulator
it usually gets a bit warm
meausure your 5v on the ioboard
and then measure it again on the mainboard
and then check pin40 and pin9 again
pin9 is the reset pin
so its fed from another chip
pin40 is the supply voltage
and should be 5v
perhaps you werent getting a good ground
when you made those measurements

Re: Chipsforbrain xoxbox build - not working!
Hmmm I'll check it again but im pretty sure it had a good ground. the 5v supply for pin 40 comes from the ribbon connector or jumper lead 4?

Re: Chipsforbrain xoxbox build - not working!
yes
both pins 3 and 4 are 5v
and pins 7 and 8 are ground
it could be that the cable is bad
measure with a good ground point on the mainboard
like between those cable pins

Ive been measuring the ground from where the large pots clip into the board

Re: Chipsforbrain xoxbox build - not working!
those are on analog ground
which is seperate from digital ground
pick a point like pin20 on the micrcontroller
