No Jumpers or straps in my kit

Do I need anything specific for the jumper wires or can I just chop up a wire off an old device in the house? Also are the straps 100% needed for the two large selector knobs on the xoxbox? Is there anyway I can get round it other than obtianing the recommended wires?

The jumpers are just wire. Even the straps are just wire. You wouldn't get that kind of thing in a kit because, well, it's just wire 
A consumable like solder etc.
I would fit the strap wires if you can. It will make the pots more secure and minimise the joints breaking in future. A bit of old solid core mains cable is good for that.
