I just bought a busted 303, no cpu, missing pots, generally for want of a better phrase f*cked up beyond all recognition.
A) I am currently toying with the idea of using all the crucial transistors and IC's in my x0x
B) The other idea I had was to build the 303 motherboard into an external box with the x0x controlling it, I'd add slide and accent out from the x0x and ins on the 303 so that all aspects of the pattern would translate correctly.
C) Or should I built the 303 motherboard into the x0x? So that both the x0x and the TB are controlled from the x0x sequencer.
D) Or should I fix and restore the 303 (I can possibly get the required bits to do so)
What would you guys do?
303->x0x?

Re: 303->x0x?
I'd fix the 303 _and_ build the x0x. if you don't need that many, sell one. If you need them sync'd (like in step C) or for FM sound gen then mod them both to hook into each other with patch cables. Just my knee jerk reaction. I don't really know what I'm talking about though.Fiercefish wrote:What would you guys do?

I'd fix it up if you can get the parts and spend the time. If not, sell it to someone who can. I can't really stomach parting out vintage gear unless it's completely toasted.Fiercefish wrote: What would you guys do?
(says the guy who spent $160 on parts to fix up a busted Juno 106...)

I would take out the 2sa733ap transistors, and the ba622a, and use em on your x0xb0x. But mount them all on sip sockets. Then if you happen to find pots, and the processor, you can switch em back.
However, as far as I understand, the pots are very hard to find. And the processor? It's a 4 bit beast from NEC that has the microcode burned into it from the factory. It is essentially impossible to find unless it comes out of another 303.

Heh... I think I almost bought that very 303 on ebay this summer. What turned me back was the near impossibility of getting the neccessary digital parts and the firmware. I'd look into frankenstiening it with another uC. I know a midibox seq could be modified to do it, and for that matter, jut copy the schematics of the x0x!

my 2cents: i would not mix them.
just build the x0x and try to fix the TB, keep it two projects.
one idea about frankenstein´ing the TB, did you heared about
http://www.ultra303.de/ ?
it´s a friend of lötstelle-303, involved in the ML-303 project and working since
2 years on this very own replacement project. maybe he (olaf) can help you with
a new brain for TB, beside the fact that menu navigation with those OLEDs is
pure fun and luxury...
greetings, guido
