Disclaimer: I haven't looked at the schematic yet to figger out what went awry
But a person for whom I assembled an x0x, just wrote to me saying the Gate CV output (stock, 1/8" minijack) seems to have suddenly stopped working.
He had the standard x0x pitch and gate CV outputs connected to the pitch and envelope gate cv inputs of his Minimoog Voyager... everything was ticking along merrily, with the x0x sequencer running the Voyager via CV.
When he touched the plugs of the ccables connected to the back of the x0x (the metal housing on the end of a normal instrument cable), he says the gate output stopped, and hasn't come back even though the pitch-CV still works fine.
could this be some sort of CMOS-IC-killing ESD event? or what, d'you think? Very unfortunate...
x0x GATE OUTPUT just died? weird

hmm, good call on the ribbon cables-
unfortunately I cannot look at it myself
And if I ask the owner to open it up to check for open/bad connections on the ribbon cable, it could perhaps cause additional ribbon failure.
What are those, 28ga. solid wires in the ribbons? Definitely not mil-spec stuff, anyway...
I didn't think there was anything connected directly to the output jacks
that could be harmed by ESD to the ground shield of a cable...
more likely mechanical stress leading to failure, as you say
But all is not yet known. More info as I have it; all suggestions welcome
