can i self trigger the x0x?

Post by isak »

Hi guys :)

i want to connect a ribbon controller to the cv in of my x0x, as i think about it i dont have how to trigger the x0x, it will only play on always on mod, i was thinking maybe i can self trigger the x0x, can i do that?
i tried to connect the gate out to the gate in but it didnt worked out, somehow i knew it will not work, but had to try.

thanks :)

You'll need to send a pulse to the gate, theoretically you could probably use a momentary switch to send voltage from the 5v rail to the gate in

I put a mod point on my units for this. Just put a resistor there at the gate point you can also put a diode for protection. Then connect a momentary switch connected to the 12v point or the 6v+ point , the gate that is sent from the cpu is 5v+ but its best not to mess with that power.

10k to 100k will be fine , R146 is 22k so if you have one of those left over..

thanks guys.

Q..
what if i could send 12V to the gate in every time i touch the ribbon controller ..is that gonna work?

what is the output of the ribbon controller like
you might be able to put a comparator on the output
and have it feed into the gate input

Yeah try that ! Here is an example

thanks guys :)

textile,
i know it would sounds strange to u but i dont know to read schemes to good. :?
where the 0-21+VIN is connected?
what r1 and r2 value needs to be?
is the 0V and the 12V are the input voltage?

guest,
my output will be 5V
i'm building the ribbon control from this site and exactly the same..
http://www.xmedk.be/XMEDK/phycomp/ribbon4.htm
you might be able to put a comparator on the output
and have it feed into the gate input
ok how do i put this comparator? is this what textile is showing me in the scheme?
as i understand the the video tape and the conductive material become the pot, lets say i put 2 conductive stripes ..1 with 5V to cv in an the 2nd with 12V to the gate in, the pot will change the 12V as well as the 5V and its not good, how the hell i will do that..?

hopefully youre picking up some schematic reading skills
from looking at all this stuff

what sort of opamps do you have laying around
the an6562 would work ok
but the tlv2372 or other rail to rail amplifier is better

if youre running the ribbon controller to cv in
so it goes to pin5 of ic11
you dont need to buffer it at all
although if you want to use it with other things
then it might be good to buffer it
basically replicate what ic11 is doing

then build what textile showed from your opamp
except i might flip the polarity (pins 2 and 3)
pin8 connects to 5v
pin4 connects to ground
pin1 connects to a 22k resistor which goes to r146/r144 juncture
pin2 goes to the voltage test point shown
r1 is 10k and r2 is 100ohms
pin3 has a 1M resistor to ground and the output of your sensor
pin5 is connected to ground
pin6 is connected to pin7

thank you very much guest :)

i'm kind of stuck with this project, i have a DAT tape, i cut 40cm long stripe and i tried to check the resistance but there are non.. (as i understand i can do it with DAT tape not just a S-VHS video tape, i cant get S-VHS tape any where :x )
if i see any resistance from the DAT (or what ever rail tape i'm checking ) is that necessarily means that i can use it as a ribbon controller?
do i have to put the conductive material below the DAT tape to see the resistance?
do u know any other tape that can be ribbon for this project?

BTW if i put in the gate in permanent 12V would it be ok?
my plan is to get V from J4, 12V for gate in and filter cv in, 5.33V for cv in.

you can use 12v but dont really have to
the microcontroller triggers the gate with 5v
if you use 12v though
also use a larger resistor like 47k
you dont want to put too much voltage back on the microcontroller

did you check both sides of the tape
if you cant measure any resistance
then the tape wont work

see what sort of tapes you can find
go to a used store and see what they have
and try a few things out

so i dont need 12V to trigger the gate? can i trigger the gate in with 5V?
when i checked the gate out it was 12V i was thinking coz of that i will need 12V.

so i'll connect 5V to the gate in (with a switch of course) and connect 5.33V to cv in.
if my thinking is right every time i press the ribbon controller the x0x will play coz the gate in gets 5V all the time and it will stop when not touched the ribbon controller, right?

i will look for a s-vhs tape, as i know it works for sure.
