ADio board connection problems...

Post by D_Thrasher »

Hi,

I was hoping I could have some light shed on a problem I'm having with my new MIDIsense ADio board (I can't find any other topics on this same issue).
I had it working fine up until recently; the software would detect it, and I could change settings without any issues...but it's run into a problem. I tried to adjust the note value on one of the analogue inputs for the first time, hit "Set"...and after a few seconds, I got the message "Lost connection to MIDIsense". It kept happening, so I went to verify the firmware, which wouldn't work. So then I downloaded the 1.3 firmware (which was already installed), and re-flashed the board with it. This went without a hitch, but now the software keeps saying that it's failed to find any MIDIsense boards every time I try to use it. :?
My OS is Windows 2000, and the soldering job is fine; no loose connections or dry joints. Also, the status LED doesn't appear to flash at all when I try to connect.

Here's the Debug report after two attempts to connect:

Any help on this would be really appreciated, as I'm out of ideas! Thanks.
:)

P.S...these kits are great apart from this issue. I also ordered two Resistive boards with this one, and they're working great! Thanks for coming up with such great little boards, they're just what I've been looking for. :)

ugh. somehow despite putting a big note on the http://ladyada.net/make/midisense/use-softupgrade.html page, people keep trying to reflash the firmware.
you probably broke the chip somehow because the firmware was not the problem. :(

:(

I saw and read the notice, so didn't undergo the re-flash lightly (I've re-flashed other items before)...and followed the instructions for doing so to-the-letter with the correct firmware. I assumed there was an issue with the current firmware installation, as whatever I tried, each time I tried to update the note value, it failed to do so. The resistive boards would update their note values just fine, but my ADio wouldn't.

I hunted the forums for a solution to the note issue, but couldn't find one...though I should've posted about it first.

I don't suppose there's any way to fix the processor? If not...how much is a new one?

Man...just when I need it for a Uni project too, lol.

what does the board LEDs do
1) when its turned on
2) when you try to connect

"DO NOT UPDATE THE FIRMWARE UNLESS YOU ARE 100% SURE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING. MANY PEOPLE UPDATE THE FIRMWARE AND THEN GET STUCK BECAUSE THE FIRMWARE IS NOT THE PROBLEM. YOU SHOULD ONLY UPGRADE WHEN THERE IS NEW FIRMWARE TO TRY OUT."

How to upgrade when we blocked the firmware ?

The power LED comes on as it should, but I don't get anything at all from the activity LED when turning on or connecting. It does flash when I verify the firmware though (and verification succeeds). It also doesn't seem to output any MIDI data at all...I have an Edirol UM-1X interface which has MIDI IN/OUT LEDs, and there's no activity from the MIDI IN one. It's definitely sending data to the MIDIsense though.

Doesn't sound good, does it... :?

Actually, I made a slight mistake...it doesn't flash when verifying, but just when I'm re-flashing during the writing stage. It flashes red only.

Well that's the thing...I've not had any problems with the UM-1X before, and the the ADio board was working fine with it (except for the note data issue) until I re-flashed it so I can't see how it could be that...but I guess it's a possibility.

By the way, I was talking about the MIDIsense board when I referred to the LED flashing red...the MIDI out LED on the UM-1X is flashing whenever I try to connect, re-flash or whatever. Just to clear that up. :)

Sorry to be a pain about this, but do you know of any way to fix this? If not, how much would a new microcontroller be? It's just that I'm up against a deadline and need this board working fairly soon. :?

Thanks for your help!

Bump...again, I really need this board working, so if you could hook me up with a new microcontroller for it then I'd really appreciate it. :)
