Um... the guy at the shop assured me it was :? I recall asking him, because it looked like a resistor, but it's teal green (just like in the photo that kloan posted) and bigger.
Should I go back to the shop? I'm pretty sure they knew which part I needed; I gave them a printed copy of the parts list from your site, complete with the pictures of each component. Besides, I've bought there quite a few times.

i dont know your guy but if it doesnt look like the inductor in the picture, ie at least that large then its probably not the right thing. should cost $2 or so.

i'm having the same problem finding the larger 1A inductor. I also bought the one that looks like a 1/4W resistor. And no, it doesn't work. (I'm getting 7.2V!)

update: the inductor was not my problem. (not connecting pin 3 properly was the cause.) i'm still using my little inductor, but since i'm not using it as a usb charger, i seem to be able to get away with it.
