Did you try shorting the two center pins (D1 & D2) together?

Do the voltage measurements stay relatively steady when you connect the 3Gs, or do they drop a bit?

Sounds like the Minty is performing to spec and your batteries are up to the task. Unfortunately, the 3Gs is one of the most finicky phones out there.
You might also try using a different cable. Sometimes a marginal connector contact or the voltage drop across the cable will cause problems.

It works!!!!!! she is alive without a cord to the wall!!!

Minty boost v3 with Iphone 3GS works no problem, even without original white iphone lead!!! No modifications required, no changing of resistors.

Just use Eneloop ready to use rechargeable battery from Sanyo HR-3UTGA 1.2V 2000mAH with a minimum of 1900mAH.

Have fun! I know i am not going to have the can't speak battery is low conversation again!

That's good news :D Eneloops are good batteries. Are you still using the 4xAA pack?

Yes. It's got a switch. Although will pob mod it to a bigger switch.

What should get if I want to charge those batteries via USB and keep them in the holder.

We don't have anything in our store that will do that. Sanyo does make a USB charger for the eneloops, but it only does 2 cells at a time. I have seen 4-cell USB chargers too, but I don't have any experience with them.

Hi, one more thing. Where in the Circuit can i place an LED light, so its lit when the switch is on. I have tried a few places but the voltages change. wondering if you have the ideal place.

I would put it across the battery leads. As an indicator light, you don't need to run the led at max brightness. If you use a fairly high value resistor (1K or more) the exact voltage is not critical.

Hi,
I would like to share my experience as I'm just a beginner so when something works I'm happy to share! :)
I ordered a Mintyboost at Adafruit and first thing I want to say it's not working at all with 2 AA battery on a iphone 3gs.
I tried a couple of battery before finding one is working great !
It's a battery I have taken from a laptop who died, a Li-ion 4.2v.
AND IT WORKS!
I'm so happy. :)
I will give more detail on the charging time and the amount of charging when the battery will run out.
And don't forget to solder the middle usb center.
