Chip & Batteries getting very hot, cannot find any problems

Hi, I'll get straight to the point. I just assembled my minty boost, and although me nor any others see any difference between it and the tutorial on ladyada.net, it is still getting very hot, and there is no current comming out of the rounded end. Both versions are the 3.0. Can you spot any problems? Need to fix this ASAP.

First thing I see is the chip is upside down. The notch in the chip points to the flat side of the PCB.
The socket is OK reversed, just remember to orient the chip properly.

JD3 called it correctly. The notch in the chip needs to line up with the outline on the silkscreen. Also, look closely at the bottom of the board. In the photo it looks like there is a potential solder bridge between the two pins of the LT1302 closest to the Adafruit logo. It doesn't look like they are touching, but they are awfully close. Make sure there is no contact between those two pins.

Sorry, the reason that the chip is upside down is so that is won't get super hot. I flipped it around, checked all of the soldering, and yet the chip still gets very hot. Any other advice?

All the other components seem to be installed correctly. You can check the possible short circuit I mentioned. But it is could be that the boost converter chip was damaged from being installed backwards.
