Solar charge works?

Hi,
Last week I have been using a solar panel in the bright sun, that maximum gives 1.38 volts at 500mA. When I connect it with the mintyboost, the charge light on my DS(I always turn it off) blinks normal for a second and then slowly goes out in 3 seconds. It repeats that after 4 or 5 seconds. Is this something like a trickle charge or could it damage my device or the mb?

try watching the USB output voltage with a multimeter. does it stay at 5V? or does it droop? also the mintyboost is only rated to 1.8V minimum so...
