Recharging Minty Boost

Postby Syn7 » Wed Jan 23, 2013 3:44 pm

Sorry if this seems like a dumb question, but if I use the suggested rechargeable batteries can I recharge them with the minty boost thru the USB connection?

Nope. It's a one-way street.

That's what I thought. I was reading the material in the other LAdyAda site but I din't see a clear yes or no. What would it take to make it a charger too? I saw the solar panel tut, that ain't gonna fit in a gum tin, lol. I guess some lithiums and a wall charger it is. My girl is going to Vietnam for work and I wanted to make her something she can use. One more quick question, with a plug adapter (assuming they don't use US style) and a normal American AA charger, would she have any issues recharging her batteries? How bout Europe? What the higher volatge and lower Hz (it's 50 right?) affect an american style AA charger?

Battery chargers are completely different kinds of circuits than the MintyBoost. We have a few Lithium Ion and LiPoly chargers, but nothing for regular AA's.

Pretty much any standard AA charger that operates on DC voltage derived from a wall-wart adapter will work overseas. You'll generally need to use a different wall-wart, although some are able to automatically adapt between 120V/60Hz and 240V/50Hz. You'll have to check the adapter itself to see what it's capable of.
