Hello,
what happens if the Input Voltage exeeds 5V? Does the IC regulate the voltage down to 5V again or would the IC stop working then?

You risk damaging the boost IC.

It's a boost converter, so no. To regulate to 5V from a Vin over 5V, you require a stepdown converter.ck_coke wrote:Does the IC regulate the voltage down to 5V

What if I'd use a 5,1V z-diode in parallel to the input.
It should eliminate anything above 5,1V and there is no longer a danger to the IC right?

If your source voltage is more than 5v, what do you need the MintyBoost for? Why not just use a 5v buck converter and forget about the MintyBoost? http://adafruit.com/products/1065
