new build. getting really hot

Post by rkhanso »

I just built 3 of the MintyBoost devices.
I went cheap. I downloaded the PCB file from adafruit and uploaded it to OSH Park. They made the boards for me. I just received them today and put the MintyBoost together.
I ordered the parts from Digikey. Where the part numbers didn't match, I found what I thought was a comparable alternative.
I have attached a CSV of the parts I ordered from Digikey.

I changed the 2-AA battery pack to a 3-AA battery pack, but I don't think that should matter.

During the assembly instructions, when it says to insert the batteries and see if it gets hot, It does get hot - pretty quickly.

Sorry for the blurry bottom picture. I don't have very good lighting right now.

I checked the board and soldering job- it looks OK to me.
I've built many other electronic items before and I don't think I introduced any 'operator errors' into the project.

But, I'm wondering if the board could be the problem, or a part I ordered.....or - my construction  .

OK. didn't know it was just for kits purchased from you. Thought it was for the MintyBoost in general.
I'll search elsewhere.
