Mintyboost with iphone 4

Post by rafaelFR »

Hey i just bought a mintyboost and after assembling it i tested it with my iphone 4. Fisrts it seemed that everything was going well but after 5 minutes i got the message saying its impossible to charge from that device. I decided to solder the two data pins but still got the same mistake. I'm using two two AA batteries, that is two sets of two AA batteries conected in parallel. Anyone has An. Idea of whats happening?

Measure the input and output voltages with nothing connected.
Then connect the phone and measure the input and output voltages again.

It is generally not a good idea to wire batteries in parallel. Better to switch to C-cells for more capacity.

With no load, those should be putting out closer to 3v. Try a fresh set. Be sure to use cells designed for high-drain use. Standard alkaline cells do not last long in high-drain applications like charging an iPhone.

Check your meter - make sure that has a fresh battery too. A fresh set of alkaline batteries (even cheap ones) should be more than 3v.

But when i mensure between the positive and negative lines, the two that are on the Edge of the board i get 3.2. It's between the data lines and the one on the fighters that i get 2.7. I thought these values were normal acording to your guide

But when I asked you to measure the Input Voltage, you said it was 2.7.

Let's be sure we are talking about the same thing:

The "Input Voltage" is the voltage between the positive and negative leads of the battery.
The "Output Voltage" is the voltage between the 1st and 4th pins of the USB connector.

Measure the Input Voltage and Output Voltage with nothing connected.
Then connect the phone and measure the Input Voltage and Output Voltage again.

Connect the phone and measure the Input Voltage and Output Voltage again. We need to see the difference between the no-load voltage and the voltage under load

Sorry for the holding but unfortunetly only now i've had the time to do new measurements. I cant get the hold of fresh batteries só i used the same ones on the last post that were new at the time and haven't been used. Without the phone the measurements are 2,61 and 4,98 with it they are 2,48 and 4,98 and i still get the error message. Also is it normal that they wear off só quickly? They've been in the mintyboost the whole time
