C1 and C2, solder together.

Post by Nerdguy94 »

Hello. I bought my first DIY kit, the mintyboost.
It was the first time I soldered, but it went pretty good.
But when I soldered the ceramic capacitors, C1 and C2, I accidentally soldered the two together. And when I say together I mean that the one pin of C2 and one pin of C1.
The two pins closest to each other.
I tried to mend it, but I couldn't separate the tin.
So I hoped that it was fine.
But when I tried charging my iPhone today with 7 % power, the batteries got very hot. Like to hot to touch.
So I wondered if my bad soldering could be the problem?
Or should I just not charge my phone when it has so little power?

I hope you can help me.
Best regards
Hasse

It looks to me that the C1 and C2 pins next to each other are connected together already by the circuit board. So having the solder connect them is not a problem.

From other posts (including my recent ones), you will see that other people are finding that AA alkaline batteries get hot trying to charge an iPhone. The support people recommend using high drain alkalines, or NiMH rechargeable types.

Myself, I went to 3 D cells with an add-on D cell battery holder. Works great with my iPhone 3GS.

Thanks for the answer.
I change the batteries and try again :)
