Yes I checked. The voltage drops when I connect the phone. Is that a good sign?

That is a sign of weak batteries. The phone is probably dropping out of charge mode because the voltage is too low. Using the right batteries makes a big difference. Yes. Older phones had proprietary ways of wiring these pins for chargers. The new USB standard (followed by most manufacturers) calls for the pins to be connected together.with the current setup (soldering the middle two pins of the USB), will this work for iPhone 4?
