Update: nevermind, I'm an idiot... was: battery V = output V

Edit: I had an 8 pin EEPROM chip laying around and put that in instead of the MAX. That was sure stupid! After putting the MAX756 in, I get 5V exactly. Beautiful.

I have a problem-- My output voltage is only 3V...which equals the two new batteries I put in.

I've been trying to figure this out for 3 hours now-- nothing from the forums (or my darn brain) has worked. Assembly seemed to go okay, I installed R5 in the "pullup" configuration and followed everything to the letter.

I've tested continuity between a bunch of points and scraped between some joints to make sure there wasn't a tiny short. Is that brown flux stuff conductive?

Any help is much appreciated...

Nice to know that figured out that though a chip has 8 legs, one cannot interchange them.
