spokePOV -> globePOV?
Basically, im interested in making a pov globe, and I was curious what everyone's experience with spokePOV was. Do you think this kit would transfer easily? I was thinking of using a machined metal ring, probably with half on each side. Any hints, tips, suggestions are very welcome

Re: spokePOV -> globePOV?
sure. you'll need to change the software of course, because the display is no longer polar but uh, spherical?

JoeELP,
I have seen toys exactly like what you are describing at Wal-Mart and toy stores. Check these out for ideas.
Also, go to this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gklBWwGy ... annel_page and check out 00retrobrad00's POV projects. Granted, his are right-circuilar cylinders (not spheres), but you might get some information there.
Also, go to this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLygWkHo ... re=related which is a POV globe.
I'm sorry I don't have any real, concrete answers for you, but I thought these might point you in the right direction.

I met James Sears at NextFest in LA a couple years ago. His globe is great, and he's been working on a fully volumetric sphere which is insane!

HDRI Shop or some other similar software may be able to help you do the map projection conversions you'd need to do to bend the images around so you could still use the software to upload the data.

God luck, and keep us posted on your progress!
