SpokePOV and rain?

Post by rasved »

Hi.

I consider buying a SpokePOV for my bike, but I live in a country, where rain is part of the living. My question is therefor: How does SpokePOV handle rain? Can I use it as is? Can I use it at all? Can I protect the electronics in any way?

Any experiences?

Thanks in advance,

-Rasmus

As-is, the spokepov does not handle wet conditions well. The contacts and components will corrode. You will need to waterproof it. I never got around to doing that with my first one, and it lasted about 3 months with during a moderately rainy season, then i used a toothbrush to scrub off the corrosion and it lasted another month, then it died. When I build my next ones, I am going to spray a clear coat on them to keep everything safe, but this requires moving the batteries off the board.
