Is any current state data available on the USB port? (Ie. voltage input of solar panel, battery voltage and/or temp )

I'm looking for a way to measure the amount of sunlight an area receives. If this charger's USB port can be polled to find the voltage coming from the solar cell then this charger could be useful.

The USB jack is for 5v power only there is no data passed on the port. You could still use the solar cell to test the amount of voltage being produced though.

How could that be done?

That only describes how to find the voltage and current using a multi-tester. The objective is add a raspberry pi to poll the charger and record the voltage produced by the solar panel. Do you have anything that will let me do that?

Here is the datasheet http://www.adafruit.com/datasheets/MCP73871.pdf it does not look like this chip has a way to be queried for that data.

It does not look like anybody knows enough about that panel to answer your question. I would recommend getting one from Adafruit that is a known quantity. This would be a good choice.https://www.adafruit.com/products/1485
