Outdoor Mounting for Hall effect sensor - US5881LUA (#158)
I have an application where I need to mount some Hall effect sensors outdoors and I have very little room to work with. I'd like to find a mounting method that will result in the smallest package possible and be weatherproof. I was thinking about covering them in epoxy to provide a waterproof barrier. Any ideas about whether this might work? Any thoughts on the best method to create a small releasable form to encase the sensor in epoxy? Will epoxy limit the range of the sensor? If epoxy is not a good idea, any other options?

Be sure to use an epoxy rated for outdoor use. Marine epoxies are a good choice. For small things like hall sensors, I dip them in epoxy then apply heat-shrink. Epoxy should not affect the operation of the sensor.

Sorry, no. Sugru would probably work well in this application too. But I haven't tried it.

If you live anywhere near a navigable body of water there's probably some sort of store that carries it. Failing that, I know West Marine carries it in 8 oz cans. Note that shipping is just this side of obscene.Aluman000 wrote:You don't sell marine epoxy do you?
