USB/Serial Converter - PL2303

Postby Tinjaw » Sat Nov 24, 2012 10:29 pm

My order arrived today and when I attempted to use the cable, the driver wouldn't load. I got errors and when doing some research the chip maker claims that this is a common problem with counterfeit chips. Has this problem been reported before?

I am running Windows 7 32-bit.

Try the driver posted in this thread. Be sure to uninstall any previously installed drivers.

Thanks. I saw the note about the earlier driver, bug I couldn't find it. With the info you provided I will try that when I get home.

:( Unfortunately that didn't solve the issue. I am wondering if your supplier either purposefully or unknowingly got used a batch of counterfeit chips that the vendor warns about.

I don't mind working with people to get this thing functional. I have a desktop (ATOM-based board) with a serial port to use temporarily. I want to get this cable working for use with my laptop.

We can check with the supplier. In the mean-time, let's try replacing the cable. Contact support@adafruit.com with a link to this thread.

I received my replacement today and am very pleased. It is a completely different model and it worked out of the box with drivers found via Windows Update. Very happy with it so far. Ran a simple test and was able to program my BASIC Stamp via the cable from my laptop. That is exactly what I purchased the cable for.

Thanks Adafruit for the great customer support.
