I'm getting some strange readings from a mini 3 wire volt meter. I was using it for a project I'm working on and it seemed fine at first. Then the voltages it was displaying seemed very high, so I did a test: I hooked it up directly to a single 8.4 V power supply with nothing else connected.
When I connect the test voltage lead to the PS ground, it reads 21.9 volts. When I connect the test voltage lead to the 8.4 V line, the voltage goes above 99.9 V and the display just says " - - ". When I don't connect the voltage test lead to anything, it goes to about 45 V. I checked all of these voltages with a DMM and I got the expected values: 0 V and 8.4 V.
I have it wired as per directions in a different thread: black wire to ground, red to positive supply, and white is the test voltage lead.
Any advice would be appreciated.

So it was giving reasonable readings when first wired up?it seemed fine at first. Then the voltages it was displaying seemed very high

That's right. I used it for about 5 days and it was working fine. It was powered from a 6 V supply and correctly measured voltages from 0 to 35 V.
