Brass Valve 996 for Propane?

Postby MauiMaker » Mon Jan 21, 2013 2:46 am

Howdy...
I've been working with some arduino controlled propane flares lately (video)and have upcoming project to take this to a much larger level.

I was browsing thru your catalog and noticed your brass 1/2" 12vdc valve.
I'm not a valve geek so I am not sure - Is this appropriate for gas (propane) as well as the liquid you mention?
I need a half dozen or so and your price is good - and a well known, liked vendor.

These are designed for liquid and I don't believe they could handle the pressure of a propane tank. For safety, you really want to go with a valve specifically rated for gas.

Drat. I thought the price a bit low for propane rated valves. Will consider again for aquaponics and other liquid projects.

Hi, I was wondering what the top pressure you would recommend putting on this valve. I have two and one holds up 90psi from an air compressor but the other vacillates and lets the air pass.

The valve is rated from liquid pressures up to 140psi. I have no information on air pressures.

So I tried various pressures and I think the brass portion of my second valve is faulty because it won't hold any compressed air over 15psi and I swapped the electronic portion of the valves and the working one continued working and the other reproduced the error.

Thanks, I emailed them first but they told me to ask the experts on the forum first.
