Need more info on 512 step motor.

Postby astroboy907 » Wed Jan 23, 2013 11:44 pm

I am building a motorized timelapse pan/tilt camera mount, and was wanting to use this motor in the project. However, there is a a lack of info on the site, like how much amperage it draws (crucial as I am battery-powering the entire project), as well as how slow it can go (I need less than 1 revolution an hour, most likely going to be using a 2:1 reducer on this as well as the gearing existing in the motor.

I only have 3 weeks to build this! So answers ASAP would be SUPER appreciated!!

The motor draws about 130mA/phase. There is no lower limit on the speed. This is a stepper motor so you control the step rate.

Sweet, thats just in my range of power....
Excuse the blond moment. I was rather exhausted and frustrated at the time of writing... :)

So one more thing I might ask- could you somehow describe the torque of the motor (the holding torque I assume). Frankly transferring torque-weights and newtons isnt giving me any Ideas... could this support a 1lb weight at a right angle perhaps? Just wondering if I can use the same type motor for the pan and tilt portions of it. Thanks so much for your quick help, by the way...

At what offset from the axis? You need to know more than the force to calculate the torque.

1.5" or thereabouts (for the tilt portion of the head)

From the specs it says 2 oz-force*in. 1 lb @ 1.5" would be 24 oz-force*in. This motor won't do it.
