Li Ion Charger Schematic Questions

Post by smd75jr »

Hi,

On the schematic for the USB/DC 5-12V Li-Ion charger board ([url]http://www.adafruit.com/products/280][/url), pins 12 and 13 are tied together and the line is labeled "BATT+". The line coming out of pin 14 is also labeled "BATT+". Looking at the board itself it looks like the 3 pins are all tied together, is this the case?

Thanks,
Stephen

Yes, I believe that's true. They should all be tied together.

Thanks!

A few more questions:

1. to the right of the USB jack, there is a net labeled "U$1". What is this and where does it go?

2. Just below that, attached to the GND pin of the USB jack, there is a symbol that looks like a TRS jack. Is that the barrel jack that comes soldered on the board?

Thanks,
Stephen

I think U$1 combined with the mechanical GND switch ("TRS jack") below it are actually the barrel jack. You can see that U$1 goes through D2 on the way to VCC. D2 is right below the barrel jack, is it not?

That is the DC barrel jack. The positive center-pin is polarity protected via D2.

Thanks!

Another one: What kind of diode is the B120 on the power inputs? (part numbers? not very good with diodes)

Hi,

Another thing I am having trouble with is the fact that in the schematic there are 3 polarized capacitors, however, on the board, there are 3 (apparently) non-polarized capacitors.

I'm quite new to working with surface mount so some clarification of these two things would mean the world to me.

Thanks,
Stephen

If you search the part numbers, the answers are all out there.
Tantalum caps are polarized. smaller SMD parts are often not marked.

Thanks!

Hopefully the last question: What are the LEDs rated at?

Thanks,
