Using the Bluefruit EZ-Key for a DDR pad

Post by ryan_erickson »

I'm trying to use the Bluefruit EZ-Key as input for a homebuilt DDR pad, and am seeing something I had not expected.

It was pretty simple to hook up, I did straightforward wiring for the UDLR12(CR) keys, and individual presses of those keys worked exactly as it should.

The problem I encountered is that when playing a game of DDR, if I tried to press 2 buttons (L+R, usually) at the same time, they didn't register as both being pressed. I believe the left up was registered before the right down.

Is this normal operation? If so, I don't think I can use the Bluefruit EZ-Key for a game pad, since 'simultaneous' presses are required for most DDR-style games.

Is there an option or way around this?

Thanks!

I don't think so. I don't believe the BlueFruit supports simultaneous keypresses on the 12 input pins.

you can have up to six simulatenous keypresses (any of the 12 pins)
pressing a key sends a keydown, releasing it sends a keyup
