VS1053B, V2.0: Caps or not?

Post by chiefgeek »

I bought a VS1053B breakout board and, according to the pictures in the tutorial, it's Ver 2.0.

According to the tutorial, extra caps aren't required to connect a "line in" device safely.

Why were there a couple of loose caps inside the bag with my board? I'm afraid I'm misunderstanding something.

What are the sizes of the included capacitors?

I don't remember exactly, but they matched the description of what was included in the V1.0 kits to protect line-in devices. It would all make perfect sense if I had a V1.0 board, but mine has the two cylindrical surface-mount caps near the short end of the board, the opposite end from the SD socket.

The little bag I received contained the board, a 1/8" audio socket, a couple of stips of header pins, and 2 loose, thru-hole caps.

Perhaps, Adafruit is giving away free caps by mistake, or, maybe, I've misunderstood something.

I'll double check, but I suspect they are relics of the 1.0 part list.

Wahoo!

BTW, I followed the tutorial for the simple, interrupt driven MP3 player and it worked on the first try. Very easy and clear. Thanks.
