Help with Adafruit Ultimate GPS

Post by hahihula »

Hi,
i have a problem with Adafruit Ultimate GPS ... the "fix" led blinks so it seems that it searches for signal but i do not get anything on tx and rx pins. I am using ftdi232 and never sure if i should connect tx to tx or tx to rx but I tried both and do not get a letter on GPS output...
Does someone know what could be wrong?

'TX' means 'data comes out here' and 'RX' means 'data goes in here'. You need to connect the TX line of one device to the RX line of the other.

WRT the basic connections, have you tried the instructions in this tutorial: http://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-ultimate-gps/

Hi,
The problem is not in wiring... there is nothing on tx and none on rx... the module just is not transmitting ...
I need help, is there something i can check to know if the module is working?
The led blinks ~once per second (which should be ok if I am inside and so can't get fix) - does it surely means the module is working correctly? And if so, why it doesn't send something over the serial?

Please post clear, detailed pictures of the top and bottom sides of the board, so that we can check the solders for any problems.

I am testing the GPS on the breadboard so only soldered think is the header and the battery holder. The photos are take with my phone so the quality is poor but as you can see the header is soldered... (most obvious on the side photo).
I even tested the resistance with multimeter and the resistence between the soldered header pin tx and pin 9 on chip is 0. Same RX pin, the 3.3V on header and pin 1 on chip , all GND pins are ok ....
I do not think it is a soldering issue.

Do you know that the FTDI cable works? Can you connect it to something else, like an arduino, and get data transfers?

The ftdi cable works... if i connect rx to tx i get reply over the serial console.
I get the ftdi because i was unable to make it work with TI stellaris lauchpad using energia ... there was nothing on the serial.read() ....
