I purchased the unit (ID 1077) to have a project with my boy, and we received it in the post Friday - http://www.adafruit.com/product/1077
The package came with no instructions and we could not find any details on-line, so not sure how to wire it up. We found it stated GND on one pin, so decided the next pin must be + and the last the output signal. But we are getting no output on the LED - in fact it never lights up at all...
Do we have a faulty unit or have we wired it up wrong?

There is a "Tutorials" tab under the product photo with links to the tutorials: http://www.adafruit.com/products/1077#LearnThe package came with no instructions and we could not find any details on-line,
Post photos of how you have everything wired up.

Yes, we found the instructions on the details tab, but it did not say what the three terminals were on the little circuit board to wire up the battery pack and the led for the heart rate. We looked at the pictures that were there and they appeared to have it wired up as we decided to do itadafruit_support_bill wrote:There is a "Tutorials" tab under the product photo with links to the tutorials: http://www.adafruit.com/products/1077#LearnThe package came with no instructions and we could not find any details on-line,

Sorry, we did try to take some pictures but the camera on the phone gives is not good enough for items this small. So here is a drawing to show how we wired it all together.

OK. That looks right. Are you sure you have the led polarity right? The longer lead should be on the signal side. The shorter lead towards ground.

Yes. That was the first project I did with him. Battery - resistor - LED, so that he could see the LED light up and to understand how it worked and why we have the resistor.adafruit_support_bill wrote:OK. That looks right. But with it all wired up we get nothing
Not sure then if it is the transmitter or receiver that is faulty?

Have you moistened the electrodes on the back of the transmitter to assure good skin contact?

Yes, done that as well...adafruit_support_bill wrote:Have you moistened the electrodes on the back of the transmitter to assure good skin contact?
Can you confirm if the LED should blink on and off, or if it should be changing between dim and bright?

The sensor puts out a brief (15 mS) pulse with each beat. You should see a brief periodic flash from the led. Looks like they pack a 1K ohm resistor with that, so it's probably not going to be super bright. But it should still be quite visible.

OK. Just one more thing to check:
Disconnect the wire between the resistor and the signal pad on the sensor. Touch the end of the wire to the V+ pad and see if the LED lights up.

Yes, that made the LED light up nice and bright...adafruit_support_bill wrote:OK. Just one more thing to check:

OK then If you contact [email protected] with a link to this thread, we can send you out a new sensor kit.

Re: Heart Rate Educational Starter Pack with Polar Wireless
This isn't working for me either. Sure, the tutorial is useful... but it doesn't use the materials given in the kit. Also, the Paralax tutorial does make the TX LED blink on the Arduino board at the speed of the heartbeat. But the diagram in this thread (above) with the circuit isn't producing anything. Also, the "heart rate badge" example in the 'Learn' area doesn't use the parts from the kit but requires you to buy new ones. Do you have a tutorial or diagram to follow using the kit elements as the kit intended? I'm a beginner at all of this and right now a little disappointed that there aren't instructions in the kit or online as to how to make it work. Especially as it is labelled "starter pack". Hopefully I missed it and you would just send me the URL to the diagram/instructions.

Re: Heart Rate Educational Starter Pack with Polar Wireless
The heart rate badge is more of a project using the monitor than it is an example of what you can do with the items in the kit. I'll see if anyone can find out if they can get the circuit you mentioned working.
