HDMI 7" Display Heat and Artifacting

Post by lynx2112 »

Just purchased the HDMI 4 Pi 7" Display & Audio 1280x800

It says that it needs 5v - 12v power adapter. So i picked up a 12v power supply.

The monitor works great. However, after about 5-10 minutes running the top of the display (There appears to be some aluminum film covering the backlight) Heats up to the point you can't touch the screen. or the metal. It is about this time that the LCD at the top whites out along the top edge. It appears to drift down from this point.

Could this be caused by a bad display board?

I should point out that there appears to be large tears in this film on the back side where the PCB soldier connections scrapped it during transit.

Please let me know what you recommend.
Thank you

Any recommendations? Should i return it. I am concerned about fire damage if using it for and extended period of time.

Let's get you a new screen and power supply.

Send a note to [email protected] with a link to this thread and the folks there will arrange the replacement. I'll also ask them to arrange return shipping on the devices you have so we can find out what caused the problem.

I have the exact same problem. Got both the power supply and HDMI 4 Pi: 7" Display 1280x800 IPS - HDMI/VGA/NTSC/PAL from you. I get the white artifact at the top. The tape on the top also gets wicket hot, like burn your hands hot.

And, btw, if you want to use this display with fbset on the console, add this to your /etc/fb.modes:

mode "1280x800-60"
geometry 1280 800 1280 1024 8
timings 12500 56 16 128 1 216 12
endmode

And for a nice workable display, do:

setfont /usr/share/consolefonts/Lat15-TerminusBold32x16.psf.gz

and you get a nice retina-like console display.
