I found the AT command reference for this. Truly mind boggling. If I read it right it even has a speech synth somewhere on board. However do you have any details on how to go about setting up service with T mobile? The guys at the cart sell stuff and know what do with what they sell, I think this will confuse them. Help?
Thanks

The speech synth is for the 'H version of the chip (not this one) - its cool but the 'H is more expensive and we wanted to start out simple while we get production rolling :)
Just go to T mobile and say you want a Mini SIM for a GSM phone, they should not need to see the phone. We verified this at a T mobile store (official type), worked great!

I've had good luck using the FONA with a SIM from Walmart. Their 'Walmart Family Mobile' is a T-mobile reseller and you can pick up the SIM starter in store pretty easily: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Walmart-Famil ... t/22150963 The service isn't the cheapest, it's $25 for the SIM and $30/month for unlimited talk+text or $40/month for unlimited talk+text+data but there's no contract as its all prepaid.

Re: Adafruit FONA - Mini Cellular GSM Breakout
Hi all,
This looks like an excellent board at a fantastic price. Problem is I read in several places that SIM800L does not work with 3G SIM, but only 2G - and in Europe most of newer SIM are 3G only.
Can anyone confirm or deny this ?

So does that mean it's gonna be useless for us mear mortals in the UK that went 4G ages ago and 2G is obsolete? I've got one in my cart so i'll need to know if i need to take it out :(

It will only work if the sim supports 2G. Some 3G sims are backward compatable but not many. Check with the supplier of your sim.I've got one in my cart so i'll need to know if i need to take it out :(

I think O2 still uses 2G for SMS/TXT and low coverage area to fall back to 2G/Edge
But i can only confirm 100% for O2 Germany that it will do that.
