Just got my new 2.7" RePaper dev board, for use on my Pi.
Unfortunately, I've been having some issues..
I'm familiar with Linux but very much an electronics newbie, so please forgive any stupid questions!
I followed the instruction in the tutorial to the letter, but when I test the panel (either through epd_test or running a Python demo) I get no activity on the screen. I started on Arch Linux, but after a while got the latest Raspian image and stepped through all of the commands to the letter, double-checking everything. I believe the software side is OK - epd-fuse compiled and installed OK, and I can run it and cat /dev/epd and all scripts etc run without any errors.
I have quadruple checked all of the wiring - flex connector on the dev board, connector to header on dev board, and especially the jumper cables to the Pi. I've re-done all of that completely numerous times, triple-checking with all the doco and photos online, and I'm as confident as can be that I've wired it correctly - but I haven't managed to get a peep from it in either Arch or Raspian.
The Pi is powered from a standard 1A iPhone USB adaptor.
I did wonder about the references in the make file to EPD version numbers (by default, it's set to 1, but there is support for v2)
I have tried the driver compiled with both v1 and v2, but neither worked. I couldn't find any reference on the board to it being version one or two, but I do note that the connector on the board on mine is different to the tutorial - mine doesn't have a 'shroud' around it like in the tutorial.
And when I run cat /dev/epd/panel:
EPD 2.7 264x176 COG 1
and cat /dev/epd/version:
3
I'm a bit confused by the whole COG vs EPD version number thing - not even sure what the cog refers to..
Help!

Hello caligari,
I just arrived back.
My system: from /etc/issue : Raspbian GNU/Linux 7
and /etc/default/epd-fuse contains:
I recompiled the current version using the commands:
The meanings of the various terms:
Would you post photos of the display board connection and the labels on the back of the panel (to check if COG 1 or 2).
Here is my display board connections:
I just arrived back.
My system: from /etc/issue : Raspbian GNU/Linux 7
Code: Select all
% uname -srvmo
Linux 3.10.25+ #622 PREEMPT Fri Jan 3 18:41:00 GMT 2014 armv6l GNU/Linux
Code: Select all
EPD_SIZE=2.7
Code: Select all
make rpi-clean
make rpi
sudo make rpi-install
sudo reboot
- COG - Chip On Glass a tchnology for mounting dispaly driver chips on the display panel rather than on a separate PCB. The Chip is at edge of the EPD panel where the flexible PCB joins the display.
- COG version is the value after the "COG" from /dev/epd/panel. There are two versions of the chip and they require different SPI command sequences to display an image.
- EPD is the whole display panel.
- The driver software version from /dev/epd/version is just a number I increment every time I change the code just to be sure the latest code is installed.
Would you post photos of the display board connection and the labels on the back of the panel (to check if COG 1 or 2).

Re: RePaper/Pi issues
Thanks very much for the response.
I've attached the requested photos - sorry about the quality, hopefully they're readable.
I did a clean checkout of your repo and recompiled/reinstalled as per your commands, but still no joy.. Same as last time, no errors during install/execution of demos, but nothing at all on the display.
The only difference that I can think of is that I'm running a very slightly newer version of Raspian, but I presume that is irrelevant:
Cheers,
Hugh.

Re: RePaper/Pi issues
I updated, so it should now be the same as yours:
I also recompiled/re-installed and the epd-fuse is running with the updated OS.
Would you also photograph the back of the EPD panel, or mabe just record the numbers from the bar code labels.
(so I can verify if this is a COG 1 panel)
Code: Select all
% uname -srvmo

Re: RePaper/Pi issues
Those look like PCB codes, Would you carefully lift up the display glass from the PCB (assuming it is not glued down) and look there.
I would expect numbers beginning with T or TEM.

Ah, OK.
The two barcodes on the back of the display panel are:
V45F001T142Z146NS114
and
VEM027BS01345Q4465

Re: RePaper/Pi issues
The display code indicates a COG 2
Compile and install using the following list of commands
After reboot make sure it is showing a "COG 2"
Does this have any effect on the display?
Code: Select all
VEM027BS01345Q4465
^ B=>COG 2
Code: Select all
make rpi-clean
make COG_VERSION=V2 rpi
sudo make COG_VERSION=V2 rpi-install
sudo reboot
Code: Select all
% cat /dev/epd/panel
EPD 2.7 264x176 COG 2
% echo C > /dev/epd/command

Re: RePaper/Pi issues
That did the trick!
It's all working now, no problems running the demos. Look forward to playing around with it.
Thanks so much for your help.
