FONA Power Draw.

Post by notthetup »

Has anyone measured the power draw by Fona?

I was wondering how long can I use it on a single charge of say a 3000mAH battery for? I can imagine if we turn the FONA off (key pin) it would draw much less power.

It would be interesting to know the power draw for

1. Off mode (turned off using key pin)
2. Standby mode (turned on but not doing anything)
3. Transmit mode GPRS (sending/receiving GPRS data).
4. Transmit mode SMS (sending/receiving SMS).

If the amount of time in transmit mode can be minimized, this could be a worthwhile components of remotely deployed sensors which might not have access to power supply.

Thanks!

For that you're best of checking the SIM800L datasheet, which has power draw info - the power spikes briefly so its not like a resistive load. The breakout is basically just the module + 1 power LED (5mA)

from some *basic* experience, 3000mAh battery will likely last a couple days
