Fingerprint Scanner

Post by davidcowie10 »

I just received the Fingerprint scanner and I am having trouble setting it up and can't figure out to enroll a fingerprint. I am using an Arduino uno and i have a PC. I tried using the SFG Demo but when I select 'open device' I chose my com port but then an error pops up that says 'open device fail, please check the password and the device address!' I have retried several times and i get the same result. I then tried to enroll with Arduino but when it would ask for an ID # when i sent a number nothing happened.
Thank you,
David

Please post a photo showing how you have the device connected to the UNO.

The wires on the sensor itself are quite thin and do not make reliable connections on a breadboard. We recommend soldering them to header pins or short pieces of 22awg solid-core wire for use in a breadboard.

I have the wires making good connections. When i power up my arduino the sensor flashes to tell me its on but I still cant get it to enroll.

how have you modified the wires so they make good connections and how have you tested the connections?

When I power up the arduino the fingerprint sensor blinks the red light so the ground and 5V wire are making good connections, and the white and green wire have the same length of wire to connect to the breadboard.

Could you connect the wires to 22ga solid wire and stick that into the breadboard or directly into the Arduino?

A connection that is good enough to flash an LED is not necessarily good enough for high-speed digital communication.

We have worked with thousands of these devices and the #1 problem is poor connectivity due to the thin wires.

Alright. Would soldering the wires to long break away headers work?

Yes. Soldering to header pins should work well.

So I soldered header pins to the wires and I retried enrolling, but I am still having the same problem. When i enroll with arduino it finds the fingerprint sensor but i cant type in an ID#. When enrolling with windows I get the same error message.

Friend, what message you receive an error?

Could you post the code that is getting the error?
