I've successfully completed the Pi Beacon tutorial, as well as the Bluefruit tutorial for Arduino. No problem with either.
I really liked the extended capabilities for the Arduino version (doing more than simple iBeacon stuff). Been trying to figure out how to reproduce these for Raspberry Pi (by using your BTLE USB):

It's clear this is possible, but I'm not sure where to start. There's almost no Bluez documentation on their site. I've purchased K-town's Bluetooth book, and, so far, I'm not seeing a lot that targets the PI. Google searches haven't been particularly helpful either.
I feel like I'm doing the right thing to find a starting point, but I'm just not getting anywhere. Any suggestions? Good website with Pi-related documentation or a bit of code that covers

I agree the documentation is pretty poor around gatttool, etc. Have a look here, though, where there is a good link and some useful tips on doing useful things with bluez on the Pi/BBB: http://forums.adafruit.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=56332
