Hello,
i tried to burn an arduino bootloader on a fresh ATMega1284P set on a Sanguino board with my USBTinyISP.
FUSES and LOCK bit can be succesfully written as also a simple blink.hex sketch.
When i try to write a bootloader with avrdude or by arduino ide i get the following error:
syskrack@pc~$ avrdude -v -B32 -patmega1284P -cusbtiny -U flash:w:ATmegaBOOT_1284P.hex
avrdude: Version 5.11.1, compiled on Oct 18 2011 at 21:17:35
[...everything ok...]
avrdude: 65700 bytes of flash written
avrdude: verifying flash memory against ATmegaBOOT_1284P.hex:

avrdude: input file ATmegaBOOT_1284P.hex auto detected as Intel Hex
avrdude: input file ATmegaBOOT_1284P.hex contains 65700 bytes

avrdude: safemode: lfuse reads as F7
avrdude: safemode: hfuse reads as D8

avrdude done. Thank you.
Any idea??
tnx, Peps

Re: USBTinyISP used to burn ATMega1284P bootloader
You'd probably want to move this to the USBTinyISP subforum, but I recall there being some firmware/hardware design limitations on the USBTinyISP for bigger than normal chips. I can't find the link right now, but I bet it's there somewhere. Quick advice is try using the bootloader anyway, even though it says it didn't work. In the past, it's worked anyway, despite the supposed verification failing.

Re: USBTinyISP used to burn ATMega1284P bootloader
tnx.. i dunno how to move it to another subforum, feel free to do it if you can, anyway i searched for the post you were talking about and that's it, i guess:
http://forums.adafruit.com/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=14752
i can confirm that the bootloader is not working at all, so the bug explained in the post probably affects both reading and writing over 64k. i'll just try with another programmer hoping to solve.
