USBTiny Issue AVRDUDE test - Initializaion Failed

Post by colinhart »

Evening All

So I have started to look into the fun of electronics, and I embarked on my first soldering project over Christmas (A USBTiny),Yay. The guide on this site is awsome, I followed it step by step.

Now hoping (and hugging a tree) I think the soldering is good, however when I connect the USBTiny up to my Laptop (Linux Mint) and run
sudo avrdude -c usbtiny -p ATmega8 -F -vvvv
I get the following output.

Code: Select all

avrdude done. Thank you.

Asking Dr Google as thrown up some possabilites but none that really fit my problem. The green light is on however when i execute the command the red light flashes once.

Any help solving this minor crises I have between any jobs you may have, drinking you may be doing would be greatly appreciated.

I am on a steep learning curve with electronics, so if you ask about components etc please throw me a bone?

This response from avrdude means that it can talk to the programmer but the programmer can't talk to the chip.
You'll find some suggestions for resolving this on our tutorial page
