ATtiny compatibility

Post by MrSlinkyfish »

Hello,

I received my USBtinyISP and programmed my first ATtiny chip!

It was an ATtiny2313, I only ordered one of them, I would like to order lots more and I wondered if an ATtiny2313A would work with this programmer. I checked on the list of chips compatible and it lists 2313 but not with the A suffix. Forgive me, I am very new to ATtiny chips, would it work.

Thank you in advance

You'll be fine with the A.

Here's an explanation of the difference between the original 2313 and the 2313A:

Primarily, the A is the same chip built on a newer process, which means it is cheaper to produce and has lower current requirements. It should work fine anywhere you could use your 2313 and it will save you a bit of money too.

For playing around and prototyping things, I'd actually suggest using the ATtiny4313, which is the ATtiny2313A with doubled flash, EPROM and RAM available. And it's still cheaper than the original 2313.
