verification error, first mismatch at byte

Post by 5826colin »

Hello, I have purchased the USBTinyISP from AdaFruit, soldered it as shown in the tutorial and am getting the error when uploading or bootloading the Atmel328P on an nano board. Using Arduino API on Windows 7. I have the JP3 jumpered to supply the board with power and can see the LED flashing showing that it is uploading data and uploading the Blink program does work from appearance of the led but am getting the following error:
avrdude: reading on-chip flash data:

Reading | ################################################## | 100% 1.61s

avrdude: verifying ...
avrdude: verification error, first mismatch at byte 0x0080
0x23 != 0x00
avrdude: verification error; content mismatch

avrdude done. Thank you.

This also happens if I try and flash the board with the bootloader.

I have attached some pictures so that you can verify my wiring and soldering.

Any recommendations to how I can overcome this problem?

I have another Nano board with 328P and tried the USBTiniISP on it and success!!! Short lived though :(, every upload after the initial one failed, however the LED is blinking so some code is getting through, I also tried to upload the arduino bootloader which also failed with same mismatch error.

15min later
For a while I was able to unplug the usb cable at the PC socket and reinsert with the first upload being a success then failure afterwards. I changed Nano boards to try to replicate the issue on the other board and could not reproduce on this board and then neither on the first board afterwards.

Seems like a noise issue to me

1hr later
Changed USB cable and still the same behavior. Bruise on front of head from banging against wall.

Any thoughts?

Did not progress any further, no help from this site and was not worth the cost of my time. Have purchased another USBtinyISP from another supplier.
