Hello,
First of all thank you for the amazing support - you guys are a great model for what a 21st century "business" should be!
Hardware: USBTinyISP kit bought from Adafruit store
Project goal: Program ATTiny85 to drive NeoPixels
Problem: Computer doesn't recognize the soldered programmer when connected to USB port (Windows 8.1 update and Ubuntu 13.10 desktop)
Obviously the green light doesn't come on. I triple checked the diodes, capacitor and ICs for proper polarity/orientation before soldering them to the PCB.
This is my first time soldering but I made sure there is no bridging.
I don't know how to proceed.. support Gods, I hope you can show me the way!
I have attached high res pictures.. http://1drv.ms/1h69GT9
Thanks,
Elango.

Re: Ubunutu/Windows 8.1 don't recognize board connected on t
clarification: by "computer not recognizing the programmer" I mean ... computer doesn't even see that a device is plugged in and doesn't prompt for driver install in Windows. Windows 8.1 - I changed the startup option to allow for unsigned drivers not that it should matter if the device is not even sensed.
I verified that the USB port is working fine by plugging in a Arduino Uno.
Should I just order another kit try my luck again?

There are signed beta drivers for Windows in the Trinket forum (sticky post at top). The device will not show as a USB device, it will be in Device Manager as a libusb32 (Sic?) device

@The_kitty, thanks for your response. It doesn't show up at all in the device manager. Anyway, I figured out how to use Arduino UNO as ISP and successfully programmed ATTiny85. Also decided to get me some Trinkets!

Ok, glad you're rolling again. The same driver for USBtinyISP as the Trinket and Gemma. It's different from Uno in that it doesn't show as a serial port. But it still works well once you get the hang of it (I know, I've written the book :) ).
